On the evening of April 10th, Desert Leaves, in collaboration with Pego Viu, hosted a community event that turned out to be a remarkable success. Titled “Invitation to Restore and Benefit from Your Land – Sustainable Reforestation and CO₂ Sequestration,” the session drew an unexpected crowd of around 40 local landowners at the Casa de Cultura in Pego, Alicante.
The goal? To share a vision of hope, regeneration, and climate action.
Overgrown and unmanaged land poses a growing wildfire risk, but it also holds untapped potential. Through this info session, we invited the community to reimagine their land not as a burden, but as a powerful tool for climate resilience, biodiversity restoration, and sustainable living.
The engagement and interest from the community exceeded all expectations. Many attendees expressed eagerness to take action, ask questions, and learn how they can contribute to restoring Pego’s natural landscapes.
We are deeply encouraged by this collective spirit. It shows that together, we can have a real impact—not just for today, but for generations to come.
This is just the beginning. In the coming weeks, we’ll be following up with interested participants to start mapping out reforestation plans, connecting them with technical support, and helping them apply for funding where possible.
If you missed the event but are curious about how you can get involved, reach out to us! Desert Leaves is here to support landowners ready to take the next step in restoring their land, protecting their property, and contributing to a more sustainable future.
